Air Conditioners Installed at the Peleliu War Museum Thanks to the Peleliu War Historical Society

3/20/07 -- The air conditioning of the Peleliu War Museum on Peleliu began with a request to the Palau Civic Action Team (CAT) for assistance in October 2006 by the Peleliu War Historical Society, Inc. With funding provided by the Historical Society and commitment from the State of Peleliu to provide operational funding, the CAT agreed to the project.

In early January the Air Force Civic Action Team 07-03 successfully completed the Peleliu War Museum air condition installation. T he team put in place three split system air conditioners in the building which was once a Japanese blockhouse.

Capt. Ryan Walinski, CAT Officer In Charge said the museum team was comprised of TSgt Ruebin Long and SSgt Scott Boucher, who were responsible for the project, and CAT Apprentices Shelton Ilemelong and Junior Benjamin.

The U.S. Navy donated over 1,000 feet of wire and over 200 feet of conduit to power the outdoor and indoor air conditioning units.

The air conditioning units were installed to keep a climate controlled environment within the building and increase the life of the artifacts and other memorabilia in the Museum.

Upon completion of the project the team members were given a tour of the Peleliu battlefield sites by Tangie Hesus, a member of the Historical Society board and renown Peleliu guide.

This is the second project completed this year by the Historical Society which is a 501(c)3 organization. The Society formed over one year ago is now working with the U.S. National Park Service to prepare a preservation plan with local residents for the Peleliu Battlefield.
